The European Commission's renewable energy progress report shows that 25 of 28 EU countries are going to meet
their 2013/2014 interim renewable energy targets. In 2014, the projected share
of renewable energy in the gross final energy consumption is 15.3%.
Europe currently
has three times more renewable power per capita than anywhere else in the
world. A renewable energy industry production is worth over €130 billion a year
and it employs over one million people. As a result, in 2013 demand for fossil
fuels in EU was reduced by 116 Mtoe and 388 Mt of GHG emissions were
avoided.
