The worst man-made greenhouse gas disaster in U.S. history
The 112-day leak at the Aliso Canyon, California facility released about 5 billion cubic feet of methane into the atmosphere, making it by far the biggest single emitter of the gas anywhere in the country. The leak leak effect is equivalent to the annual exhaust emissions from nearly 600,000 cars.

EDF Renewable Energy added 40 MW of battery storage
This is the first battery storage project in North America, reached commercial operation. The battery and power electronics were supplied by BYD America, consisting of 11 containerized units totaling 20 MW (22MVA) and is performing at expectation.

European Commission: energy saving to become priority "fuel"
EC Joint Research Centre's report states that by 2030, more energy will be saved than the amount of energy consumed deriving from oil. The report provides scientific evidence that transforming energy efficiency into a mechanism to reduce energy demand will ensure that the EU meets its objectives on security of supply, climate change and competitiveness in a decarbonising economy.

B.C. Climate Leadership Team GHG emission forecast
B.C. government is currently working on a new Climate Leadership Plan, which is due out this spring. Environment Minister Mary Polak released the report of the province’s Climate Leadership Team, which members included experts from the business, academic and environmental communities as well as representatives from the provincial government, First Nations and local governments.

World Economic Forum: climate change is a top global risk in terms of impact
The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2016 is based on the annual survey, in which almost 750 experts assessed 29 separate global risks for both impact and likelihood over a 10-year time horizon. A failure of climate change mitigation and adaptation was found to be the risk with the greatest potential impact.

In its recent report IRENA 2014-2015: At a Glance, Agency summarises programmatic activities, highlights key renewable energy developments and provides an overview of its global engagements. 42% electricity generated from wind - new world record set by Denmark

Danish state electricity provider Energinet confirmed that in 1,460 of 8,760 hours during the year, windmill production actually exceeded the domestic power needs of the country. The Danish parliament established a goal to achieve at least half of its electric power from wind by 2020.
